Abolition of the Agricultural Wages Board

A change in the way terms and conditions for agricultural and horticultural workers in England are governed has recently come into force following the abolition of the Agricultural Wages Board.

Farm employers will now be able to employ new workers under the terms and conditions that comply with wider employment legislation and, potentially, to vary the terms of an existing employee’s contract. However, employers should bear in mind that under employment law, imposed changes to terms and conditions could give rise to claims for, amongst other things, breach of contract, unlawful deductions from wages and constructive unfair dismissal.
